Okay… Tallow Skincare Just Got Interesting

I thought putting beef fat on my face was weird… and then my skin started glowing.

Let’s talk about tallow.

Because apparently I am now the girl who puts beef fat on her face.

And honestly? If you told me that a few years ago, I would have laughed.

Recently, I’ve been working with a LOT of tallow skincare brands, and there is definitely a huge conversation happening around tallow right now. I don't really want to call it a “trend” because tallow itself is absolutely not new. People have been using animal fats in skincare and body care for thousands of years.

But over the last five years or so, I’ve noticed way more Instagram accounts, small businesses and skincare creators talking about tallow skincare, tallow balms and even tallow based makeup.

And for the longest time, I just… didn’t really think about it.

Until I actually tried it.

🥩 My First Tallow Experience Was… Questionable

I’m not even going to lie.

The first time I tried tallow skincare, I was hesitant.

Like…

Wait. I’m putting FAT on my face?

It sounded kind of gross.

And after trying a few different brands, I honestly thought maybe tallow just wasn’t for me.

Some of the cheaper formulas I tried had a noticeable beefy smell that I just could not get past. Others felt really waxy and sat on top of my skin instead of actually feeling like they were sinking in.

You know when you put something on your face and immediately feel like water is just going to slide right off?

Yeah.

That.

I also found that some formulas made me break out more than usual and, weirdly, my skin sometimes felt even drier after using them for several days.

Now, I’m not a dermatologist or skincare chemist, so I’m not going to pretend I know exactly why that happened.

I just know what my skin was doing.

And at that point I basically decided:

Maybe I’m just not a tallow girl.

👀 Then Serenique Walked Into the Chat

After working with more skincare brands and creating more beauty content, I eventually came across Serenique Skin.

And immediately, I could tell this wasn't quite what I had tried before.

The packaging felt elevated.

The formulas felt intentional.

And the scent?

SO good.

Not overly masculine.

Not overly feminine.

And definitely not “I rubbed beef on my face and called it skincare.”

It has this really beautiful, subtle, luxurious quality that honestly surprised me.

And that's what made me want to actually give it a proper chance.

🧴 The Three Products I’ve Been Using

01. The Face Balm

First up: the Beef Tallow Face Balm.

This is the product that probably scared me the most when I first started trying tallow skincare because I had already experienced those super thick, waxy formulas.

But this one?

Different.

The formula is made with organic grass fed beef tallow, organic jojoba oil, vitamin E oil and natural steam distilled essential oils.

You also really don't need much.

A pea sized amount is enough.

Warm it between your fingers, press it into your skin and let it melt in.

And this is where I started understanding the tallow obsession.

My skin feels soft and hydrated, but I don't feel like I have a layer of grease sitting on top of my face.

Which, honestly, is all I wanted.

💋 The Lip Balm That Basically Lives Beside Me

The lip balm is probably the simplest product in the lineup.

And I love that.

It's made with organic beef tallow, organic jojoba oil, triple filtered beeswax and natural steam distilled essential oil.

That's it.

No giant ingredient list.

No 47 step explanation.

Just a really nourishing little lip balm.

And yes, I have absolutely started keeping it beside my bed because apparently I cannot go anywhere without putting something on my lips.

☀️ The After Sun Serum Was the Plot Twist

This one surprised me.

The After Sun Soothe Serum is designed for your face and body after sun exposure, but I've actually been using it more like a serum.

I don't spend a ton of time in the sun.

I live around the mountains and forest, so my idea of a big day in the sun is usually going for a walk and somehow forgetting that time exists.

But I really liked the ingredients in this one.

It's made with grass fed beef tallow, jojoba oil, squalane, coconut oil, vitamin E and a blend of essential oils.

And when I use it, my skin looks SO glowy.

Not greasy.

Not shiny in a “did you just spill cooking oil on yourself?” way.

Just…

glowy.

My skin looks hydrated and alive.

And honestly, I’m here for it.

✨ Okay But… What Does My Skin Actually Look Like?

I’m 25.

I've never had Botox.

I've never had fillers.

I've never had anything like that done.

And I'm not saying that as a flex or because I think one choice is better than another. Do whatever makes you feel confident.

I just think it's worth mentioning because I'm not expecting skincare to magically erase every line on my face.

I have wrinkles.

I have texture.

I have pores.

I have normal human skin.

But I’ve noticed that when my skin is properly hydrated, everything just looks better.

And lately?

My skin has been GLOWING.

Like, the kind of glow where I keep catching myself in the bathroom mirror and thinking, “Wait…”

🥩 Is Tallow Actually Worth the Hype?

After trying quite a few different tallow products, I finally understand why people love them.

But I also think the formula matters SO much.

Not all tallow skincare is created equally.

For me, the biggest difference with Serenique was that it didn't leave me feeling greasy, waxy or like I needed to wash my face again five minutes later.

It felt luxurious.

Simple.

Intentional.

And very much like skincare I actually wanted to keep using.

So am I officially a tallow girl?

Unfortunately… yes.

I fought it.

I questioned it.

I thought putting beef fat on my face was absolutely unhinged.

And now I'm sitting here with glowing skin like:

Okayyyyy. Maybe the tallow girlies were onto something.

🌙 My Current Tallow Night Routine

Okay, THIS is how I’ve actually been using it.

Step 1: Clean Girl Behaviour

Wash my face and get all the makeup, sunscreen and general life off.

Nothing glamorous.

Just cleanse.

Step 2: Hydrate

I like applying my skincare while my skin still has a little bit of moisture to it.

This is when I reach for my lighter skincare steps.

Step 3: Serenique Face Balm

Then comes the tallow.

Tiny amount.

Warm it between my fingers.

Press it into my skin.

Especially around my cheeks and anywhere that feels a little extra dry.

Step 4: Lip Balm

Obviously.

Because apparently my lips need their own skincare routine too.

Step 5: The Glow Check

This is mandatory.

Bathroom mirror.

Bad lighting.

Hair tied back.

No makeup.

And somehow I'm still standing there thinking…

Wait, my skin actually looks really good.

Then I go to bed.

☕ Things I’ve Learned From My Tallow Era

You don't need a LOT.

Seriously. Start small.

Not every tallow formula is going to work for everyone.

My skin definitely had opinions.

Smell matters.

If something smells like beef stew, I am probably not putting it on my face.

Simple can be luxurious.

You don't necessarily need a 25 ingredient formula to make skincare feel expensive.

Hydrated skin just hits different.

That's probably my biggest takeaway.

💭 Would I Try Tallow Again?

Before Serenique, I probably would have said no.

Now?

I'm definitely interested.

I think the biggest thing this whole experience taught me is that you can't always judge an entire skincare category based on one or two products that didn't work for you.

Sometimes you just haven't found your formula yet.

And for me, Serenique was the first tallow skincare experience where I actually thought:

“Ohhhh. I get it now.”

Canadian.

Simple.

Natural.

Luxurious.

And apparently…

beef fat belongs in my skincare cabinet now. 🤍
